Ripple is seeking a Head of Tax Operations to build and execute a scalable and comprehensive strategy to best manage the tax operations function in a fast-growing company. In this role you will be responsible for all compliance and operational matters as it relates to direct and indirect tax, including managing Ripple’s consolidated tax reporting and domestic compliance activities, implementing global processes, driving continuous tax process improvement efforts, and various ad hoc projects. This position reports to the VP of Global Tax, and will interface with upper management and various cross functional teams.

The candidate must be a self-starter, capable of working with limited direction while taking full ownership of their areas of responsibility, with strong communication skills to facilitate information flow between various functional teams, including Engineering, Product, Legal, Business and Finance. The candidate will be expected to anticipate and surface issues, recommend solutions, research and solve problems, and exercise good business judgment while performing these functions.


  • Lead and manage the preparation and review, across direct and indirect tax, with external partners, all federal, foreign, and state tax returns, including R&D tax credit study, and ensure timely and accurate submission; and manage audits and inquiries by governmental authorities

  • Lead and manage all aspects of the Company’s worldwide income tax provision and financial statement disclosures - Explain and discuss these items with senior management and independent auditors

  • Conduct analysis and documentation for FIN 48 purposes

  • Ensure Company’s income tax accounting review and documentation processes and related systems are in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley internal control requirements

  • Forecast quarterly and annual effective tax rates, working with FP&A to improve forecasting accuracy

  • Lead the design of process and technology improvement related to financial statement reporting

  • Monitor and analyze tax regulatory and compliance developments, accounting pronouncements, tax law changes, and analyze/document impact to the Company

  • Perform research, analysis and business support on significant transactions

  • Support due diligence for potential future mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures

  • Provide support on U.S. and international planning activities


  • 12+ years of tax experience in a corporate environment and/or public accounting firm experience with multinational high-tech or financial services companies is highly preferred

  • Strong foundation of tax accounting and tax technical knowledge with experience evaluating and advising on US and international business initiatives

  • Strong organizational, effective time management and prioritization skills in managing multiple projects in an unstructured environment are essential to success in this role

  • Proven ability to design and implement process and technology improvements related to the tax function

  • Proven ability to self-direct

  • Proven ability to think strategically while also engaging in day-to-day tactical details

  • Flexible mindset and willingness to embrace change

  • Proven ability to identify and manage tax and execution risks

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and proven ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, with cross functional teams, upper management, and outside consultants, while at the same time able to work independently to resolve tax issues
