Reserve - Head of Product

Head of Product

Reserve Oakland, California, United States of America

Reserve’s mission

We believe that everyone’s money should be secure. Billions of people around the world don't have a safe place to store their money. Their banks can't be trusted. Their governments inflate their currency to pay off debts, hurting citizens. Our mission at Reserve is to change that. Reserve is a stable, decentralized currency that can’t be abused by a government. It’s globally distributed and outside of anyone’s control, so bad governments can’t shut it down.

Your role

To achieve our mission, we need to take our powerful and stable technology and bring it into people’s lives in a easy and practical way. Designing practical and distributable products is hard, and so we’re looking for someone to fill this role who actually cares about making this happen. There are very large numbers of real people out there with an actual need, and this is a rare opportunity to do something that matters on a fundamental level for the people using it.

In phase one, you will lead a customer-oriented process to find tight product-market fit. You, and the Product Team you help to build, will go and meet the users to understand what they need inside out. This will range from going on field trips to Argentina, having lunch with crypto insiders, and taking calls with Portuguese industrialists with business interests in Angola.

In phase two, you will lead the development and implementation of our chosen products. You’ll coordinate closely with the engineering team to make further innovations in our product, as well as coordinate tightly with the CEO and Head of Growth to sequence out our markets and develop our go-to-market strategy.

Your day at Reserve

One week you are at our Lake Merritt office, and you show up at 10am for our full-team meeting. In the morning you onboard a new recruit. You travel to San Francisco for lunch to meet a crypto insider. In the afternoon, have calls with crypto power-users of stablecoins. Then you have a Product Team meeting to check-in on people’s progress and delegate new tasks. You join an investor call at 4pm, they're in for 2 million. Finally you work on strategy with CEO and Head of Growth until 9pm.

The next week you are in Argentina, starting your day with a breakfast meeting with a local Telecom executive. At 11am you begin your tour of the local infrastructure, visiting street stands, gas stations, supermarkets, and convenience stores. In the afternoon, you run a focus group with a local guide. At 7pm, prompted by your day, you give the research team questions that they’ll answer overnight.

Requirements

  • You're able to learn new technical subjects. (You'll need to understand the intricate details of how our protocol works.)
  • You have gone through the scaling process before and know what it’s like to go from 20 people to 100.
  • You have led product development for a major project, and you know how to relentlessly prioritize and act quickly without full information.
  • You have built and managed your own product team, and you know how to elicit high performance from every team member.
  • You're a fit for our eccentric culture (read more about it here).

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with the blockchain industry.
  • Experience with public speaking and pitching potential investors and partners.
  • You already have a few people in mind that you’d want to bring onto this team, and have the ability to do so.
Reserve - Economist in Residence

Reserve’s mission

We believe that everyone’s money should be secure. Billions of people around the world don't have a safe place to store their money. Their banks can't be trusted. Their governments inflate their currency to pay off debts, hurting citizens. Our mission at Reserve is to change that. Reserve is a stable, decentralized currency that can’t be abused by a government. It’s globally distributed and outside of anyone’s control, so bad governments can’t shut it down.

Your role

You will help verify the economic design of our protocol. Our team of skilled thinkers have built, as judged by our investors, the best design for cryptocurrency price stabilization. This was a result of our careful, methodical analysis and guidance from our strong network of economists (in particular, Garrett Jones). But the stakes are high; if any part of our economic design is wrong then our protocol could end up unravelling. Your role is to continue on the work of our protocol development team and meticulously check that our protocol will, in fact, handle each problem.

Since verifying our economic design is critical, we are open to someone parachuting in for a limited time to just carry out this role.

Your day at Reserve

You show up at 10am for our full-team meeting. You meet our CTO at 11am to plan the overall roadmap for fully verifying the economic design. You take a call with a senior employee of the Federal Bank at 2pm to discuss how to approach long-term monetary policy. Later, you meet the Economics Team to check-in on their progress on analyzing how well our protocol handles Soros attacks. You meet the Head of the Research Team at 4pm to discuss what further research on Soros attacks you want done. Then at 5pm you solo work on refining the statement of one of the core assumptions of our economic design.

Requirements

  • You have a broad range of economic knowledge, covering currency pegs, monetary policy, and central banking.
  • You have demonstrable experience applying your economic knowledge.
  • You can meticulously reason about complex economic systems and test your underlying assumptions.
  • You have worked in a tightly coordinated team, and know how to sync closely with team-members.
  • You're a fit for our eccentric culture (read more about it here).

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with the blockchain industry.
  • You already have a few people in mind that you’d want to bring on as Economic Researchers, and have the ability to do so.

Reserve - Head of Growth

Head of Growth

Reserve Oakland, California, United States of America

Reserve’s mission

We believe that everyone’s money should be secure. Billions of people around the world don't have a safe place to store their money. Their banks can't be trusted. Their governments inflate their currency to pay off debts, hurting citizens. Our mission at Reserve is to change that. Reserve is a stable, decentralized currency that can’t be abused by a government. It’s globally distributed and outside of anyone’s control, so bad governments can’t shut it down.

Your role

In the modern age only governments and M-Pesa have succeeded at creating a widely adopted currency. There have been many companies that have tried, but centralized control of the currency has always lead to its downfall, whether via fraud or illegal activity. Cryptography has solved this problem by enabling trustless digital money, but implementation remains a hurdle to overcome. Your goal is to lead Reserve’s adoption of our first million users.

You, and the Growth Team you help to build, will do what it takes to get traction in our various markets. You’ll test and refine use cases developed by the Product Team. Once we have tight product-market fit you’ll aggressively scale to exponential growth by setting priorities and rapidly iterating using tight feedback.

Your day in a few months:

Show up at 10am for our full-team meeting. In the morning, onboard a new recruit. Meet the Head of Product at noon to discuss the latest go-to-market plan for Argentina. Meet the Chief of Staff in the afternoon to decide your budget for the next 3 months. Call a Growth Team meeting to check-in on people’s progress and delegate new tasks. Join an investor call at 4pm, they're in for 2 million. Strategize with CEO and the Director of Marketing until 9pm.

Requirements

  • You're happy to be based in the SF Bay Area or New York.
  • You're able to learn new technical subjects. (You'll need to understand the intricate details of how our protocol works.)
  • You have gone through the scaling process before and know what it’s like to go from 20 people to 100.
  • You have built a growth engine from the ground up, and are confident creating and evolving growth strategies.
  • You have built and managed your own growth team, and you know how to elicit high performance from every team member.
  • You're a fit for our eccentric culture (read more about it here).

Nice to haves

  • Familiarity with the blockchain industry.
  • Experience with public speaking and pitching potential investors and partners.
  • You already have a few people in mind that you’d want to bring onto this team, and have the ability to do so.
