The MINT team is a new business unit that’s led by one of our co-founders and has been set up to further leverage Elliptic’s data set for crypto trading use cases. The impact you will have:

Elliptic is looking for a Data Scientist to join our small, autonomous market intelligence team (MINT) which believes in a customer-centric approach to product development. We believe that the fastest route to great products is to involve our customers in every stage of the process, listen to them with empathy, enabling us to fail quickly and cheaply so that we can learn and succeed rapidly.

We want someone who is ambitious, passionate and customer-focused. This is a unique opportunity to champion uncovering and developing new customer relationships globally for a brand new product in what will feel like a startup inside a scaleup. It is an exciting opportunity to be amongst the first data hires within this new team.

The role is cross-functional and global. It will be part of a small, dedicated Market Intelligence team (MINT) with a lot of independence to move quickly and be experimental, and some collaboration with the wider Elliptic team.

We believe that the most innovative solutions arise from empowered and diverse cross functional teams who are focused on creative problem solving together.

What you will do:

  • Turn the results of observations and analysis first into code, and then into production data for client-facing products.
  • Think creatively about new ways of enhancing our existing data (e.g. scraping new sources or improving our models)
  • Be up-to-date with the latest cryptocurrency research.
  • Develop and maintain existing Python and Scala codebase.
  • Help internal teams answer data-specific questions.

You will be a great fit here if you:

  • Are a self-starter that has a ‘let’s get this done’ attitude with a low ego about more administrative tasks – they all matter.
  • Are highly organised, dependable and make it your personal mission to not let anything slip through the cracks. An obsessive completer-finisher would thrive here.
  • Aren’t afraid of uncertainty; a fast-paced environment won’t faze you.
  • Understand that working in a start-up means working high and low; you are okay with going from brainstorming in a strategy meeting to clearing the admin backlog.
  • Know the basics of cryptocurrencies and have a genuine interest in understanding what patterns lie beneath the seemingly unorderly structure of the blockchain.
  • Love coding and appreciate the importance of applying good software engineering practices but at the same time do not strive for perfect, clean code at the cost of effective research.
  • Love interrogating data, looking for answers to your questions with an eye for what is most useful for the team and for the company’s objectives.


Our ideal candidate has:

  • At least 2 years of commercial data science experience or equivalent relevant experience at Ph.D. level
  • Strong knowledge of Python and of at least one other language (preferably Spark or Java, bonus points for Scala).
  • Good understanding of all the data science fundamentals, and experience with the necessary Python toolkit (numpy, pandas, scikit-learn, scipy, …)
  • A strong numerical degree-level qualification (e.g., Computer science, Maths, Physics, Engineering, …).
