About the Role:

The Data Scientist role supports the business function by using data to solve and understand practical business problems. This can involve making a business case to justify development time, data analysis to support decision making and understanding, or the application of modelling to improve business processes. Working alongside the in-house Development and Data Science teams, this role uses data from a variety of applications, including Trading, Liquidity, CRM and Risk to support business decision making, as well as accelerating the use of Data and MI throughout the business.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• Using existing data and statistical techniques to investigate speculative or business urgent requirements
• Engaging with internal stakeholders to validate and elaborate on requirements and priorities
• Assist with the development of reporting to produce testable frameworks which provide operational reliability and auditability
• Understanding business processes and developing data presentation tools such as dashboards and reports
• Application of analysis and automation to support key business functions
• Developing an understanding of trading and market structure
• Development and deployment of advanced statistical techniques or machine learning models to improve or automate business processes
• Researching market structure and order book dynamics to understand key relationships for trading patterns and broker volumes
• Helping drive the use and application of data and ML in the business
• Presenting research and outputs to senior stakeholders to help determine strategy and business focus

Essential Skills / Experience:

• A STEM degree, or equivalent, which included mathematical applications
• Strong SQL and Python ability
• Familiarity with standard Python libraries including pandas, numpy and scikit-learn
• Strong problem solving skills with the ability to apply creative solutions to complex tasks
• A great team player that is comfortable working on concurrent projects

Desirable Skills / Experience:

• Experience or knowledge of the finance industry
• Commercial work experience involving data analysis and the application of machine learning or advanced statistical techniques
• Commercial scripting and development experience
• Experience designing reporting tools and/or dashboards
• Basic development using Perl/PHP etc.
• More advanced development skills such as Java
• Windows/Linux OS knowledge as a power user
