The leader in Bitcoin, Ethereum & blockchain news

Job description

Cryptocurrency has come a long way since Bitcoin’s genesis block. Regulators and lawmakers around the world are busy either embracing or rejecting the role of cryptocurrency and are establishing what role blockchain will have in the futures of finance, money and data. This position is a golden opportunity to dive into a fast-developing industry and shape the narrative surrounding emerging laws and regulations. We are looking for someone to be the tip of the spear of Cointelegraph’s coverage of policy. The position is fully remote, but the successful applicant must be a native speaker of English and willing to work during U.S. business hours. The Policy Writer reports to the News Editor, the Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief. Core duties:

  1. Monitor and report on emerging trends and announcements related to digital assets and blockchain regulation.
  2. Quickly reacting to breaking news, turning around briefs of 150–300 words in 20 minutes or less.
  3. Manage and produce longer featured stories on vital topics in the subject area.
  4. Liaise with major politicians, regulators, lawyers and stakeholders, conducting interviews and sourcing original and pertinent stories.
  5. Writing headlines and social media copy that draw readers in.
  6. Use our in-house style guide to copy-edit all content (a slightly modified variant of AP Style).
  7. Spearhead creative new content styles.
  8. Take over the weekly policy newsletter.

Required qualifications:

  1. Ability to learn on the fly and keep track of day-to-day news flow in a quickly evolving industry.
  2. Deep knowledge of the cryptocurrency industry and especially of financial policy.
  3. Expert English writing and editing skills.
  4. Willingness to work nights and weekends as required.
  5. Work well within a team and organization.
  6. Interviewing and building relationships with sources.
  7. Relevant bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of work experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  1. Experience reporting on breaking news.
  2. Knowledge of U.S. financial regulatory apparatus, international financing, monetary policy, and legislative processes in major global economies.
  3. Non-English languages are a plus, especially Chinese, French, Japanese or Russian.
  4. Comfortable reviewing code on GitHub and legal docs on PACER.
  5. A nose for a story and the instinct to ignore PR blitzes.
