The Role:

We are looking for a Director of Engineering that will help lead our engineering teams as we scale.

The incoming Director of Engineering will be responsible for engineering product development and planning. This includes managing the development teams throughout the products lifecycle, gathering and prioritizing requirements from the product managers and the technical project managers, supporting the CTO defining the product technical vision and roadmap, and working closely with engineering to accomplish winning deliveries. It also includes working with both internal and external teams and stakeholders.

The ideal candidate is someone with experience managing engineering teams with the right balance of people, processes, and systems, able to have a direct impact on growing the engineering organization as we scale, amplifying the strengths of the teams, and shaping us into a high-quality world class engineering organization. This is a fundamental role to the continued success of the business and, as such, the incoming candidate will be able to make a significant and tangible impact on the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development organization across different engineering teams
  • Responsible for the planning of the engineering teams’ work in conjunction with the CTO, technical leads, product and project management teams quarter over quarter by being the bridge between engineering and the other departments
  • Responsible for orchestrating and empowering the team to execute that plan with high-quality while balancing the long-term strategic vision of the products and important engineering initiatives
  • Maintain a solid up-to-date understanding of the architecture of our platform to communicate “the why” and decisions made to various stakeholders across the organization
  • Monitor reliability and performance of the products to recommend any improvements
  • Ensure teams understand and implement security regulations for our products
  • Bring a continuous improvement mindset to every conversation. Pushing us to get better and simplify our processes, product/architecture, and evolving how we grow people as we scale.
  • Hire engineers and coordinate training
  • You’ll report to the CTO, and technical leads will report to you

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science, or other IT disciplines, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of technical experience, including 7+ years in a leadership role
  • Ability to support recruiting activities, develop newly hired technical team members and make sure the engineering team continues to work together as a cohesive and highly productive team
  • Solid background in one or more of the following languages C++, Java, Rust
  • Experience with Unix/Linux
  • Hands on operating style and approach but a view towards the future and willingness to invest in people development and in developing an organization that will support a large company
  • Knowledge of the most common design patterns and a strong attention to the design of software architectures
  • Aptitude to find solutions to complex problems
  • Fluency in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Passionate about learning new technologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of cryptography
  • Experience in designing and developing blockchain applications
  • Experience with a rapid growth company (growing with an engineering team of 10 to 100)
